WOOD PRICE REFERENCE
How to budget an existing lumber material list
This guide starts with sizes and quantities you already have. It helps you price-check the wood portion of a project; it does not generate a takeoff, determine structural quantities or produce a binding quote.
1. Match each listed item
Keep species, grade, treatment, nominal and actual dimensions, length and quantity on the same line. Choose a reference only when its specification fits. Flag missing details rather than assuming a cheaper row is equivalent.
Build your material list
Use + Add beside a price on the lumber workbench. Change the quantity in your material list to see each line and the wood subtotal. The list keeps the source’s original billing unit and saves the selected price in this browser. You can export the list as a CSV.
If a required product has no price yet, add an unpriced line from the wood catalog. It stays visible and marks your overall material budget incomplete.
2. Match the quantity to the billing unit
A per-piece price needs a piece count. A per-linear-foot price needs the appropriate total length. A bundle price needs the published tally and minimum purchase. Do not apply a piece quantity to a bundle, board-foot or sheet price.
3. Calculate a material-only example
Example quantity supplied for illustration: 25 pieces of the 2x4 #2 Pine, 8-ft column.
25 × $3.98 = $99.50
Source: Intercity Lumber, Tampa FL. Observed Oct 12, 2026; supplier effective date not supplied. This is a reference calculation, not a current quote. Availability, treatment and drying details are unconfirmed.
4. Keep the missing costs visible
Add supplier-confirmed delivery, fuel, handling, unloading and tax separately. Apply any waste allowance deliberately from your own project plan; this guide does not choose one. Minimums and pack rounding can make the purchased quantity larger than the list quantity.
If freight or tax is unknown, show “pending” beside the material subtotal. Do not present an incomplete subtotal as the final delivered or installed project cost.
5. Confirm before buying
Ask the supplier to confirm the exact specification, quantity, final price, validity and fulfillment. This reference does not reserve stock, approve substitutions or order material.
